3 Lug Mounts and Adapters: What Do I Use?

Using a 3-lug mount and an adapter provide a fantastic benefit as an attach/detach system for your suppressor. On top of that, they are instrumental in preventing suppressor walk off. In order to reap all the benefits, it’s imperative you have the correct setup. Here’s what you need to know:

DO I NEED A 3-LUG MOUNT AND ADAPTER?

You only need a 3-lug mount and adapter if your host weapon is a pistol-caliber carbine or sub gun. They aren’t used on pistols. If you’re shooting a pistol, check out this link for more information on what you’ll need, or this flowchart that will help guide you.

WHAT IS A 3-LUG MOUNT?

A 3-Lug mount is a system containing 3 different components – piston, spring and retainer – this is the system that goes into the suppressor.

The 3 lug is designed for use with a fixed barrel firearm. These 3-lug mounts come in two variations – 9mm and 45ACP. You can use the 9mm 3-lug with only 9mm 3-lug parts. The 45ACP 3-lug can only be used with 45ACP 3-lug parts. The parts between these are not interchangeable.

WHAT IS A 3-LUG ADAPTER?

A 3-lug adapter is the component that threads onto the host weapon and allows you to connect to the 3 lug mount installed in your suppressor. Similar to the 3-lug mount, there is a 9mm version and a 45ACP version. You must use the corresponding caliber between your mount and adapter. For example, a 45ACP mount requires a 45ACP adapter.

WHICH ADAPTER SHOULD I USE WITH MY SUPPRESSOR?

As a general rule of thumb, you’ll want everything to match the caliber of the host weapon. This chart will guide you to the correct mounting and adapter systems whether you are using the Obsidian9™ or Obsidian45™.

Below you’ll also find links to the items described in the flow chart, happy shooting!
